Jan,

A great story in the New Yorker this week about some really smart people doing something really smart that I couldn't quite understand and another about some rich people who had a party and said some stuff that was funny but, like they didn't realize it was funny. Did you read it?

Dear PRaxis:

Unlike you, I get my New Yorker in the mail, and it hasn't arrived yet. Sometimes it seems odd to me that here I am in the technological wonderland, and there you are in what was a technological backwater, but cultural wonderland, yet you appear more connected to the leading edge of technology: The New Yorker, on your Blackberry before it hits the newsstands, let alone my mailbox. 2 cents per minute transcontental phone calls via the internet that, when we're talking - me at lunch, you on your veranda with cigar and cognac enjoying the evening - you sound clearer and closer to me than Durlak when he calls from the office next door.

Then there are those instant message conversations with photos we sometimes have, again via your Blackberry and my desktop. "Hey, I just saw something cool at the Rudolfinium - wanna look?" you ask me. "Uh, sure," I reply. Boom. A streaming video pops up over the spreadsheet, showing you climbing down from the trolley, Budweiser Budvar in hand, strolling into Kino Blanik for a late afternoon showing of "Thank You For Smoking." "Wanna, watch some of the film with me?" you ask. "Uh, sure why not," I reply, "this data search is going nowhere fast anyhow."

Dobry den -

Jan
